Philosophy & Mission Statement
The Board of Directors and Staff of this Commission believe that drug & alcohol abuse is a major problem in our society, and that our response needs to be comprehensive, sensitive, factual and effective. Our philosophical approach to the problem is based on the disease concept of chemical dependency. This position promotes the concept that chemical dependency is a disease characterized by the repetitive and compulsive ingestion of any mood altering drug, in such a way as to result in interference with some aspect of the individuals life, be it health, marital status, career, interpersonal relationships, or other required societal adaptations. In view of these facts, this Commission is committed to providing primary prevention services, early intervention services and comprehensive drug free treatment services to the community. Our belief is that these services shall be made available to every resident of the service area regardless of race, creed, color, age, sex or ability to pay.
